Unbiased Opposition to Religion

Posted on Updated on

I wrote this last night before going to bed and with all the other articles I submitted, I was surprised to see this one posted on TimesNews.net. Here is the full article:

In this day and age, our world seems preoccupied with being offended by each other’s religion or lack thereof.

Christian claims to be persecuted, even though they are a majority and have their fingers in everything they can grasp. They think, just because we modeled our country on Christian principles, we are a Christian country, but we are not. Most of our founding fathers were Deists when they wrote the Constitution. They even declared it in the Treaty of Tripoli that, “As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion; as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion, or tranquility, of Musselmen; and as the said States never have entered into any war or act of hostility against any Mehomitan nation, it is declared by the parties that no pretext arising from religious opinions shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries.” The Senate approved the treaty on June 7, 1797, and officially ratified by the Senate with John Adams’ signature on June 10, 1797. Beyond this, the Christians here in America still think they are entitled to impose their beliefs on anyone and anything.

Islam says they are the true religion and was modeled off the bible 1,400-plus years ago. They also have laws in place that make it OK to still stone individuals, mutilate genitalia, behead blasphemers and commit suicide killings all in the name of Allah. They claim to have scientific truths in their Quran, but just because a lot of science came from Arabic background, does not mean their science is correct. Mohammad said the earth was “egg-shaped,” but we all know that the earth is an oblate spheroid. Many other misconceptions can be debunked easily with just a little research using Google.

Many others are small and keep quiet, because of fear of retribution from Christianity and Islam. Most non-believers are put to death in other countries where fundamentalist religions are predominant, such as Saudi Arabia. The King has declared any thoughts outside of Islam to be terrorism. This includes Atheism and any other religion that is not Islam. Christianity is not as bad, but was in the past. Christianity itself is not killing people, but it is telling us what we can and cannot do with our human and civil rights. That is just as bad as death to some people.

Most wars in history can be tied to religious beliefs. The Crusades, our Civil Wars, World War II, and many others, even the ones Christians bring up using Stalin, Mao and Pol Pot, atheistic totalitarian dictators whose people didn’t believe in what they did, but followed their orders from fear of death.

All of this is generalization and not everyone who holds a specific belief can be said to fall into these statements, but there are many out there who do. These individuals, we call fundamentalists, are the ones who are doing the most damage to our world. They infect others like a virus and spread misinformation to gather more followers with their blatant disregard for whether it is true or not. You can compare this to those who believe everything in tabloids.

The problem with religion is that it is NOT needed today. You can have your beliefs, but when it comes to banding together and telling others what they should and should not do, it is a violation of our rights.

If you want to believe there is an invisible, all knowing, all powerful man in the sky who looks over you and comforts you with double standards, go ahead. But when those beliefs tell another person what they can and cannot do with their own body or whether they can be married or whether they are a moral person or not, they have overstepped their boundaries.

Religion is a blight on humanity and it will be its downfall if we allow it to continue. There is a solution to this problem, but as the saying goes, “Ignorance is bliss.”

We need to educate people. If people want religion taught in school, it cannot be just one specific religion, as in the case of Christianity in America. It must be all religions. A critical mind is developed through the understanding of everything, not just one specific topic. We need to keep religion from pulling us backwards with its conjecture and speculation. Faith is defined as belief without evidence and therefore cannot be considered knowledge. To have knowledge, the prior belief must be established with evidence to back it up. A good example of this is, I don’t believe the earth is round, I KNOW it is round. We have evidence to prove it is. There is NO evidence religion is true.

Many people of faith will claim their holy books to be evidence because they contain historical places, people and events, but so does, “Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter” by Seth Grahame-Smith. Does that make it true? No, it is still fiction, just as the Bible and Quran are.

If we are going to grow in this world and make it a better place, we will need to end religion and its destructive hold. Keep your beliefs, but make them personal. If you don’t like hearing other individuals talk about their faith or disbelief, how do you think they feel about yours?

There will always be an opposition to religion as long as it is around. So either quit trying to impose your beliefs on others or deal with the consequences of your beliefs. It is up to you.
